I love the aroma of cinnamon. It has this distinct scent that really makes me hungry or crave. The taste, combined it with brown sugar and you can’t go wrong. Cinnamon, sugar and green apple, that’s heaven. The mixture of flavors are simply amazing. The sweet spiciness of cinnamon, sweetness of brown sugar and the tartness from green apples just bring all the flavors together. I love them with apple pies.
A few days ago, a watched a video from facebook and got so much excited with baked french toast recipe. The look is so inviting. The ingredients are so common. Then, I thought, maybe this taste good with apple pie filling. Here I go. Luckily, we have so many green apples in the kitchen. It comes cheap and I need it for health purposes. So why not make use of it in a different way, right?
The recipe calls for cubed bread and I used tasty bread or loaf bread. I marinate the cubed bread in milk and egg mixture for 4 hours, though you can make it overnight. Instead of using regular milk, I used condensed milk to make it more flavorful. Speaking of flavor, I added some melted butter. That’s right. Butter makes everything taste so good.
4 pieces Eggs
300mL Condensed Milk
1/2 cup Melted Butter
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
350gram Cubed Tasty Bread or Loaf Bread
1/4 cup Butter
5 pieces Granny Smith Apples, diced
1/2 cup White Sugar
1/4 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Clove Powder
1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg Powder
1 teaspoon Cinnamon Powder
2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
2 Tablespoons Vodka, Apple Flavor
2 Tablespoons Water
3 Tablespoons Flour
1 cup Flour
1/3 cup White Sugar
1/4 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 cup Butter
Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
Combine eggs, condensed milk, cooled melted butter and vanilla. Whisk. Add cubed bread and mix. Chill for atleast four hours. Bring out of the fridge atleast 30 minutes before baking.
For the filling, melt butter in a sauce pan. Add apples and stir for 2 minutes. Add sugar and stir and let the sugar melts, about 3 to 5 minutes. Add clove, nutmeg and cinnamon and stir. Combine apple cider vinegar, vodka, water and flour. Mix until the flour dissolves. Pour into the apple mixture and stir for 2 minutes. Cool completely.
For the crumble, combine flour, sugar and baking powder. Mix until completely combined. Add cold chopped buttet. Cut in the butter using the back of a fork until it looks like a wet sand. Chill while for 30 minutes.
Pour the base in a 9-inch round baking pan. Pour in the apple pie filling and top with the crumble toppings. Bake for 50 minutes. Cool completely before cutting.
