Beef in Mushroom Sauce recipe is probably one of the easiest dish my mom would cooked for us for packed lunch. All you need is beef, cream of mushroom and chopped mushrooms. It taste good, requires few ingredients and easy to cook.
My mom used sliced tenderloin and would simmer it for several hours until tender. Then, she would sauté the garlic and onion. She will pour in the mushroom sauce and sliced mushrooms and that’s it.
I bought a kilo of beef, which to be honest I forgot what cut it was. Though you can actually use the beef part you like. I think beef shank, tenderloin or T – bone will be a great choice. You can actually use sliced beef but I decided to use a whole cut of beef which I intended to finish off on a sizzling plate.
I was planning to cook this dish last week and even bought the beef last week. However, my sister does not like beef so I decided to postponed it and cook it this weekend.
Some would think that buying an expensive cut of beef would be a waste if you are going to cook it well done. Well, in my case I even simmer it until tender. But hey! Most Filipinos would eat a well done piece of beef than the medium rare cooked beef. It’s still uncooked for them.
Tips
For this version of beef in mushroom sauce recipe, I decided a whole cut of beef but you are free to choose the sliced version for a more bite sized pieces.
I started by searing the beef to keep the beef intact. I’m worried that when the beef is already tender, the meat will disintegrate. Simply sear it until golden brown. I highly suggest buying a tender part of the beef. Mine was done after an hour of simmering.
I highly suggest you use the canned cream of mushroom. The powder one is probably cheap but they taste so different. The canned cream of mushroom is more delicious than the powder one.
